Arturo gatti wife picture

New York Post Reports

Boxing champ Arturo Gatti's wife was arrested yesterday by Brazilian cops who suspect she strangled him with her purse strap, as people close to the slain fighter said they had long feared that either "he was going to kill her or she was going to kill him."

Gatti's wife, Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues, 23, was being held yesterday because the Brazilian native can't explain how she didn't realize for nearly 10 hours that he was dead in a beach-resort apartment where they were staying with their 1-year-old son.

She is expected to be charged with his murder. A police spokeswoman told Reuters: "She [Rodrigues] is the only suspect."

Police said they believe that Gatti - who was found dead early Saturday - was strangled with a handbag strap, and that the granite-jawed boxer also suffered a head injury.

The bloody strap was found in the apartment at the Porto de Galinhas resort.

Gatti, 37, reportedly was drunk and arguing with his wife Friday night at a resort bar.

Gatti's friends yesterday were mourning his murder - and were not surprised to hear that Rodrigues might be involved. The former junior-welterweight champ and his wife were extremely jealous and often squabbled when out socially and drinking in New York, Montreal and Brazil, sources told The Post.

From the beginning of their relationship, his friends, family and boxing advisers warned that she was young, immature and gunning for the millions he had earned in the ring, sources said.

One source said that their disputes were sometimes violent and that she did not hesitate to physically attack him. He told people close to him that she threw a lamp at him last month in Montreal, where they moved after living in Weehawken, NJ.

"The feeling was that either he was going to kill her or she was going to kill him," the source said.

Gatti's family, who sources said were not the least bit shocked by Rodrigues' arrest, learned of the murder while attending his sister Anna's wedding in Florida.

"A lot of people in his inner circle felt that this wasn't the right girl for him," said Carl Moretti, VP of the boxing promotional company Top Rank Inc.

Perez Hilton Hits Arturo Gatti While He's Down

Police say that boxer Arturo Gatti, who was found dead last weekend, was strangled in his sleep by his 23 year-old ex-stripper wife. As if that wasn't unpleasant enough, Perez Hilton put up some other dude's picture on Gatti's "R.I.P." post.

The straight news: Gatti, who had taken more blows to the head than any human ever should, was vacationing in Brazil with his wife, Amanda Carine Barbosa Rodrigues. Their relationship was known to be violent. It did not end well. Cops say she strangled Gatti to death with her purse strap, which was found covered in his blood. Her alibi was not so great:

Rodrigues could not explain how she had spent nearly 10hours in the room without noticing that Gatti was dead, authorities said.

Uh huh. The final indignity: not only did Perez Hilton (a boxer himself!) run the wrong guy's picture as Gatti to memorialize him—he ran a picture of Alfonso Gomez, a guy who beat Gatti. Ouch. Perez's heartfelt words upon learning of Gatti's passing: "Major bummer!"

We know that Arturo's family appreciates that, Perez. For future reference, though, here's another photo from the very same set of Getty pictures from the Gatti-Gomez fight that you pulled your wrong photo from. Boxer Arturo Gatti’s Wife Being Held for Murder

After former NFL superstar Steve McNair was murdered by his girlfriend earlier this month, another sports icon might have been killed by a woman he loved.

Arturo Gatti, 37, a world famous boxer who retired in 2007, was found dead Saturday in his Rio de Janeiro vacation home. Now, authorities are holding his wife, Amada Rodrigues, 23, as the prime and only suspect. They believe she choked him to death with her purse strap, according to the Associated Press.

Rodrigues was the first person to find her dead husband but was then detained after police found several inconsistencies in her interrogation, according to ESPN. She said that she and Gatti had been in a minor altercation but then there was a mysterious 10 hour window between that and when she reported him dead. Several blood stains were found around the room and their 1-year-old son was unharmed.

The Canadian boxer was a fan favorite over his 16 year career, winning two championships and being in several major bouts that were epitomized by fast paced action. In 1995 he won the IBF junior lightweight title and in 2004 he won the WBC junior welterweight title. He retired in 2007 after losing a few fights in a row, including one to Alfonso Gomez, who became a star on the former TV show “The Contender.”
