Miami Heat acquires Patrick Beverley

Patrick Beverley's circuitous basketball route may have reached its ultimate destination.

The Miami Heat acquired the former Marshall High star for a future second-round pick and cash considerations from the Los Angeles Lakers, who had picked him in the second round of the NBA draft with the 42nd overall selection.

Beverley, a 6-foot-1-inch guard, has traveled from Chicago to a brief, controversy-filled stint at the University of Arkansas and eventually to the Ukraine before he heard his name called Thursday night.

Beverley averaged 16.7 points per game on 48 percent shooting with BC Dnipro, according to eurobasket.com. He earned 2009 Eurocamp MVP in Treviso, Italy, earlier this month.
